The Other Store
In the heart of Milan, a city in constant movement and transformation as well as a freelance melting pot, Open is the perfect refuge for reading a good book, working (thanks to the forty co-working stations), enjoying a bite to eat, surfing the Web gratis on a tablet or pc, relaxing and meeting up. As the name itself tells us, it is open to all, and was designed to insert a space for sharing into the urban fabric of Milan. The brainchild of four brilliant minds convinced by a new approach to living and working, it was developed through crowdfunding and conceived on every level to harmonise different needs and motivations, bringing them together in a modern, welcoming 1,000-meter-square space. LAGO’s challenge was to bring design to a mixed space in constant ferment, and used modular, suspended furniture to give this multi-purpose space a home-like, comfortable, dynamic vibe.
From the suspended kitchen, where gourmet delights are whipped up, to the fully equipped meeting rooms, which can host between six and forty people, the furnishings create a light, convivial atmosphere. In the open-space room, long Wildwood oak tables welcome anyone who wants to work, read or relax, delighting the sense of touch with the grain of old, warm wood, while the LagoLinea bookshelves, which come down from the ceiling like stalactites, lend a touch of eccentricity and movement to the space. Contributing to the home-like feeling are the colourful large Air sofas, with transparent glass legs, which offer up a comfortable, informal place to fully relax.
It is only natural that such a welcoming space also has a stimulating play area for little ones: a recreational oasis with bright yellow Lagolinea bookshelves and the modular Plet rug, the modules of which look like delicate flower petals.
